BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) _ Monty Latimer hit a 3-pointer with 7:03 left to lead Western Kentucky to a 59-49 win over Butler on Wednesday night.

Latimer’s basket started a 7-0 run that gave the Hilltoppers (2-1) a 45-40 margin, and Butler never regained the lead. Greg Springfield and Joe Harney added two points each during the spurt.

Butler (4-3) led 21-17 at the half after Western hit only one of its first 12 shots from the floor and fell behind 12-3.

Latimer scored 11 of his 14 points during the second half, including three 3-pointers, and Harney had 11 of his 13 during the last half. Western also hit seven of eight free throws in the final 52 seconds of the game.

Steven Bides added 12 points for Western before fouling out with 37 seconds left.

Jon Neuhouser led all scorers with 15 points for Butler, and Rolf van Rijn and Otis Frazier added 10 each.
