NEW MARKET, Tenn. (AP) — Authorities in Tennessee say a police officer has been arrested and charged with trying to have sex with a child.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says in a news release that New Market Police Officer Joseph Miller attempted to arrange though another adult to have sex with a girl under the age of 13.

The TBI, the Tennessee Highway Patrol and police agencies in Jefferson County and Knoxville allege that Miller intended to pay money for sex with the girl.

TBI says Miller was arrested Friday on a charge of solicitation of a minor. He has been booked into the Jefferson County Jail.

The Associated Press could not immediately determine whether Miller had a lawyer to speak on his behalf about the case Saturday.
