Bus, Tractor-Trailer in Accident

BREEZEWOOD, Pa. (AP) _ A tractor-trailer and a bus collided today on a foggy stretch of Interstate 70, and at least 19 people were injured, state police said.

State Trooper Harold Smith said the accident occurred just before 4:30 a.m. about nine miles south of Breezewood. Details were not immediately available.

Terry Scheifer, a district manager for Trailways bus lines, said the bus was bound from Washington, D.C., to Pittsburgh and then to Los Angeles.

The injured were taken to hospitals in three states.

At Bedford Memorial Hospital in Bedford County, seven people were treated and three declined treatment, said Eva Thomas, a nurse in the emergency room.

In McConellsburg, the Fulton County Medical Center received three of the injured. Nurse Nancy Doney said their injuries were being evaluated, but all were in stable condition.

Four people were taken to the Morgan Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs, W. Va., but their conditions were not available.

Two people were taken to Washington County Medical Center in Hagerstown, Md., where their injuries were being evaluated, according to hospital spokeswoman Sharon White.
