LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Actress Elizabeth Taylor, hospitalized for pain and infection from a tooth extraction, was expected to be discharged Friday, a spokeswoman said Wednesday.

Doctors performed ''a minor procedure on a tooth'' to relieve discomfort and possibly head off the need for additional surgery, said Betty Schuller of the Hospital of the Good Samaritan.

Miss Taylor, 54, was admitted Sept. 25 to the hospital due to the discomfort caused by extraction of a tooth, Dr. Robert Thompson said last week.

''She's gone through a lot of pain,'' said Chen Sam, the New York publicist for Miss Taylor. ''She's resting quietly and hopefully she will be out on Friday.''
