YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) _ Dwhawn Edwards and Garrett Petteway each scored 16 points as hot-shooting Central Connecticut beat Youngstown State 79-65 Monday night in the Mid-Continent Conference.

The Blue Devils shot with 61.5 percent efficiency. They sank five of their eight shots from 3-point range, and Petteway made all four 3-pointers he attempted. Their only shooting woes came at the free-throw line, where they made just 10 of 21.

The margin reached 26 points when Kincy Wallace made a steal and scored on a breakaway to make it 69-43

Central Connecticut’s 7-2 center Keith Closs scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.

Youngstown State (8-9, 3-6) had 15 points from Marcus Culbreth and Hank Raber.

The Penguins wore a black marker on their uniforms in memory of Youngstown State football player Jermaine Hopkins, who was shot to death in Youngstown early Sunday morning.
