Kenyans Win Peachtree Road Race
ATLANTA (AP) _ Kenyans Robert Cher Kipkoech and Susan Chepkemei were winners Friday in the 10-kilometer Peachtree Road Race.
Africans took seven of the top 10 spots in both the men’s and women’s divisions.
Kipkoech finished in 28 minutes, 23 seconds for 6.2 miles. Chepkemei won in 31:13 seconds. Last year’s women’s winner, Lornah Kipligat, was second in 31:34.
In the men’s division, Kenyans Paul Koech and Evans Rutto were second and third. The top American was Moroccan-born star Khalid Khannouchi of Ossining, N.Y., in 10th place.
Among the women, Luminita Talpos of Romania was third. The top American woman was Christine Clifton of Kirkland, Wash., in 12th place.
With 55,000 runners, the Peachtree is the world’s largest 10K race.
