TULSA, Okla. (AP) _ Oneok Inc. (OKE) on Tuesday reported second-quarter earnings of $281 million.

On a per-share basis, the Tulsa, Oklahoma-based company said it had profit of 68 cents.

The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of seven analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 67 cents per share.

The natural gas company posted revenue of $2.96 billion in the period.

Oneok shares have increased 32 percent since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has risen slightly more than 5 percent. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $70.44, a rise of 25 percent in the last 12 months.
