WASHINGTON (AP) _ Maj. Gen. John W. Woodmansee has been nominated for a promotion and assignment as the new commander of the Army's V Corps in Europe, the Pentagon said Monday.

Woodmansee would replace Lt. Gen. Colin L. Powell, who was tapped last month to become the deputy to Frank C. Carlucci, President Reagan's new national security adviser.

Woodmansee, a 52-year-old native of Charlotte, N.C., is now the Army's assistant deputy chief of staff for operations and force development. If confirmed by the Senate, he would receive his third star and elevation to the rank of lieutenant general.
