Meet the Raiders Night at CCC Columbus

Central Community College-Columbus men’s and women’s basketball teams are inviting local fans to the Raider Fieldhouse on Wednesday night to help welcome in a new season.

The 2018 Meet the Raiders Night will include free food, a celebrity game, introduction of the 2018-19 teams, contests and camraderie.

The event begins at 6:15 p.m. when hot dogs, hamburgers and water will be served free to the public with donations appreciated.

Introductions will begin a 7:00 followed by a Celebrity All-Star Game with celebrity coaches Willie Piitz and Keith Manak.

Following at 8:00 will be 20 minutes of games open to public participation.

The cost of admission is a donation that goes to Raider Basketball, and anyone can participate (except for the celebrity game and dunk contest).

T-Shirts will be sold for $15.

The men take part in a jamboree in Ames, Iowa, the following Saturday before taking the court for the regular season at home on Nov. 1 against Cloud Community College. The women have two October scrimmages before beginning the season at Iowa Central Community College on Nov. 5.

The men were 15-17 a season ago while the women were 9-21. The teams have a combined 12 players from Nebraska on their rosters. Alexis Ramaekers from Twin River High School is the most local of any player on the rosters of the two programs.
