Marcus Davenport ‘okay’ with Saints preseason debut
The Saints hope one of their new additions becomes a cornerstone and judging by the plays he made in his first preseason action, 2018 first round pick Marcus Davenport is off to a good beginning.
The New Orleans defense as a whole impressed after a shaky start against the Los Angeles Chargers collecting four sacks along with a pick six from training camp addition cornerback Marcus Williams.
But it was Davenport that most Saints fans were focused on and while the UTSA product said he just did ‘okay’ in his team debut, he had flashbacks to when he took his first snaps as a Roadrunner.
“It’s kind of weird. It kind of happened exactly like my freshman year in college. You know, they drive down the field, something happens, and then they call me up and I was just like ‘dang, we in it.’”
Davenport was asked about a tackle he made on a sweep play to Travis Benjamin, saying, “Honestly I saw it and I was like ‘wait they did the same thing in practice’ and then I was like ‘oh.’
“I was running, I was like “oh no he ain’t going to get me this time’ and then he cut up, and I was like ‘oh no.’ But I was able to get the tackle. It was cool,” Davenport explained.
