NEW ORLEANS (AP) _ The New Orleans Saints have four injured starters, including quarterback Aaron Brooks and running back Deuce McAllister. All will be evaluated day-to-day this week.
Brooks has a bruised right shoulder after being hit twice in the same area in Sunday night’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, first in the second quarter and later in the third quarter.
``He has a bruised muscle in his shoulder,″ said Saints trainer Scottie Patton. ``We had a MRI done, which was negative, but did show some bruising of the muscle.″
Brooks will be evaluated daily to see how his range of motion and strength progresses.
Cornerback Dale Carter, meanwhile, has a mild shoulder sprain in his left shoulder.
``We also performed an MRI on him, which was negative, but did show some swelling around that joint,″ Patton said.
Deuce McAllister played with a sprained right ankle that was taped and braced. He was sore, but not injured further.
Right guard LeCharles Bentley, who returned for the Buccaneers game, was still sore, but his sprained right ankle was no worse for playing.
``To be honest with you, we’re probably in pretty good shape compared to most teams in the league,″ said Saints coach Jim Haslett. ``I’m concerned because they’re a lot of our starters, but we’ll see how it goes this week.″
