Rotella will be first woman to serve as Stonington’s first selectman

September 16, 2018

Stonington _ Democratic Selectwoman Kate Rotella will become the first woman to serve as first selectman in the town’s history when she takes over in an acting capacity on Sept. 28.

Last week, the Board of Selectmen voted to have Republican Selectman John Prue serve as acting first selectmen from Sept. 20 to 28 and then Rotella through Oct. 3.

They will be running the town in the absence of First Selectman Rob Simmons who will be on an overseas trip. Rotella, who is running for state representative from the 43rd District in November, was sworn in as acting first selectwoman on Friday.
