Letter: Salute to a soldier
The Nov. 25 Stamford Advocate article “50 years after Vietnam” described what a young Stamford soldier, Ralph Del Vecchio, experienced during the last month of his deployment in Vietnam. I read his story three or four times to get an understanding of the emotions that arose within me from the picture of war which was painted by the words in a newspaper column.
I am writing for three reasons; one, to urge those who read this to try to get a copy of the story and really think about it; two, to thank Angela Carella who wrote this column and also to thank the father-son team of Tony and Matt Pavia whose book is titled “An American Town and the Vietnam War”; three, and most important, to thank Ralph Del Vecchio for his service to the United States of America.
With my utmost respect to him.
