Golf: Kingwood boys finish 7th at state tournament

The Kingwood boys finished in seventh place at the Class 6A state tournament Tuesday at the Legacy Hills Golf Club in Georgetown.

The Mustangs shot a two-day total of 602.

Kingwood shot a 309 on Day 1 of the tournament and followed with a 293 in the final round on Tuesday.

Holden Hamilton led the Mustangs shooting a two-day total of 71-73-144.

Damin Strydom followed, shooting a 77-71-148 while Hayes Hamilton shot a 82-71-153 in the state tournament. Meanwhile, Luke Stayton shot a 79-81-160 and Ty Nicar rounded out the Mustangs by posting a two-day total of 83-78-161.

The Mustangs had a successful season under head coach Jeff Bellnap, who is in his 16th season at Kingwood.

The Mustangs won the District 22-6A crown and won the Region III-6A title for the first time under Bellnap.
