U.S. Honor Flag to be flown from NP to Miami
The U.S. Honor Flag will be flown out of the North Platte airport this morning on its way to Florida for the funeral of a police officer.
Arrangements have been made to fly the Honor Flag to Miami International Airport via Denver. Honor Network founder Chris Heisler will carry the flag onboard the flight that departs Lee Bird Field at 6:40 a.m., according to a press release.
Miami-Dade Police Officer Jermaine Brown died in an ATV crash Dec. 12 while he was conducting an enforcement detail after community complaints of illegal activity along a canal path. He had served with the Miami-Dade Police Department for 15 years. He is survived by his wife and three children. His wife also serves with the department.
The Honor Flag team is in the North Platte area for the Christmas holidays. Heisler’s wife, Cynthia, is a North Platte native.
The Honor Flag is an American flag that has flown at Ground Zero after the 9/11 attacks and at funerals and memorials for fallen officers and firefighters across the country.
