France Detains U.S. Man in Death Case
MONTPELLIER, France (AP) _ An American man is being held for questioning in connection with the death of his father, whose body was found near a farm in the southern French region of Aude last month, police said.
Jackson Firth, 24, was detained for questioning on Monday after being found at the Montpellier train station in southern France, the Montpellier police said.
The body of his 69-year-old father, John, was found Feb. 29 outside his farm in Sainte-Colombe-sur-l’Hers, where he had lived for 10 years. An autopsy showed the man had been killed with a heavy object.
The father was originally from New York, while his son had lived in Michigan before coming to France, where he has been studying for two years.
An international arrest warrant was issued for Jackson Firth on Feb. 12. Police said he had left his studio in Montpellier after his father’s death.
