Mineta to Have Hip Replaced
WASHINGTON (AP) _ Transportation Secretary Norman Y. Mineta will be hospitalized for two to three weeks while a hip is replaced. Mineta is scheduled to go into Walter Reed Army Medical Center Monday night.
Spokesman Chet Lunner said Wednesday that Mineta will have a laptop computer and be briefed regularly by Transportation Department officials. Deputy Transportation Secretary Michael Jackson will run the Cabinet agency during Mineta’s absence.
Mineta, 69, was hospitalized for four days in October because of a nosebleed and resulting low blood pressure.
