Girls improve against undefeated Meadows
LAS VEGAS — Needles’ girls improved steadily but lost in three to the undefeated Lady Mustangs from The Meadows in NIAA 2A South League playoff action at The Meadows.
The scores were 25-7, 25-12 and 25-14.
“I think we went in expecting this,” said Coach Patricia Phelps, “but overall they saw they did better than the first time they met The Meadows in the season. We scored more points on them. We lost, but it wasn’t a bad game for us. We were catching up with them, only one point away at times, but when they’d take the lead we couldn’t catch up.”
Phelps credited senior Paige Murch’s digging against a great hitting team; and said she saw decent serving by her Lady ’Stangs.
Looking ahead, she said: “We’re a young team right now. We’re bringing back almost everybody. We’ll miss Paige, of course: she was a starter all four years and will be hard to replace, but we have most of them coming back.
“So that’s good. Most of my starters are coming back.”
