Raimondo to celebrate lighting of State House Christmas tree
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Gov. Gina Raimondo is inviting Rhode Islanders to the annual lighting of the State House Christmas tree.
The festivities will take place beginning at 5 p.m. Thursday. The Democratic governor, first gentleman Andy Moffit and their kids will light the tree at 6:15 p.m.
The 18-foot tall Douglas fir placed in the rotunda was donated by Bedrock Tree Farm in South Kingstown.
Raimondo and Moffit will read “The Night Before Christmas” after the tree is lit. Entertainment will be provided by “The Governor’s Own” 88th Army Band, the Mixed Magic Theater Exult Choir, the Ponaganset High School Chamber Chorus and Wheeler Middle School Chorus.
Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus are also scheduled to appear.
Attendees are asked to bring an unwrapped toy to be donated to charities for under-privileged children.
