The festivities will take place beginning at 5 p.m. Thursday. The Democratic governor, first gentleman Andy Moffit and their kids will light the tree at 6:15 p.m.

The 18-foot tall Douglas fir placed in the rotunda was donated by Bedrock Tree Farm in South Kingstown.
