February 6, 2002

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) _ The San Francisco 49ers re-signed safety Al Blades on Tuesday and assigned six players to NFL Europe.

In addition to Blades, who spent last season on the 49ers’ practice squad, San Francisco also signed free agent linebacker Cornelius Anthony, who was cut by Washington in training camp last season.

The 49ers’ first six players assigned to NFL Europe were punter Stephen Cheek; receiver James Jordan; defensive ends Jerome Davis and Shawn Hay; and tight ends Neil Johnson and Ben Steele. San Francisco is likely to assign more players to the developmental league later in the week.
