SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Illinois' capital city has contracted with an advertising agency to promote it as part of the state of Illinois' 200th birthday this year.

The (Springfield) State Journal-Register reports that the city hired HIP advertising to create a campaign geared toward attracting visitors from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The marketing campaign for the city will target those more than 50 miles outside of Springfield, including Chicago, St. Louis and other parts of the Midwest. That campaign will feature digital, TV, radio and magazine advertising.

Agency owner Myra Hoffman told aldermen this week that the goal is "to get people to spend the night."

One of the ads has a picture of Abraham Lincoln tipping his hat with the city's slogan for the bicentennial, "Hats off to 200 years."
