Tax Commissioner Tony Fulton remarks on October state revenues falling below projections

November 20, 2018

LINCOLN - State revenue for October is down from projections, but a state official says that doesn’t say much about Nebraska’s overall economic health.

State Tax Commissioner Tony Fulton says state revenue was down 3.2% from the certified forecast. He says while that news isn’t good, it’s important to keep things in perspective.

“We have collected a little bit more than projected,” says Fulton. “I try to look at all sides of the equation and (I’m) just being honest in saying I don’t see a trend.”

Fulton says the fiscal year isn’t even half-over, so it’s still too early to make any statements about Nebraska’s economy.

He adds he won’t know until after April, the state’s largest revenue month, where the state’s economy stands.
