Ed Harris to Direct Broadway Play
NEW YORK (AP) _ Ed Harris, known for movies such as ``The Right Stuff″ and ``A Beautiful Mind,″ will make his debut as a Broadway director next year with a production of Sam Shepard’s ``Fool for Love.″
``Fool for Love″ is the story of two lovers holed up in a seedy Mojave Desert motel. Harris won an Obie Award for his portrayal of Eddie in the 1983 off-Broadway premiere of the drama. That same year, he portrayed astronaut John Glenn and Shepard played test pilot Chuck Yeager in ``The Right Stuff.″
The production will open Feb. 10 at the American Airlines Theatre, the Roundabout Theatre Company announced Friday. The cast will be announced later.
Harris made his feature film-directing debut in 2000′s ``Pollock,″ about the life and career of painter Jackson Pollock. Marcia Gay Harden won an Academy Award for her role in the movie; Harris was nominated for best actor. He also has received Oscar nominations for his roles in ``The Hours,″ ``The Truman Show″ and ``Apollo 13.″
The 53-year-old actor is now filming ``A History of Violence″ with Viggo Mortensen and William Hurt for director David Cronenberg.
