Capital tops Miyamura, 54-39
The Capital boys basketball team finally got itself into gear Thursday.
Playing their first game in 12 days, the Jaguars needed a half to shake out the cobwebs before beating Miyamura, 54-39, in the opening game of the Eddie Pena Classic round-robin tournament in Grants. Capital (6-2) held a 24-16 lead at the half before outscoring the Patriots 19-11 in the third quarter to lead 43-27.
Brandon Saiz scored six of his eight points in the quarter to lead Capital’s charge, while Seth Arroyos had five of 13 points in the same span. Meanwhile, Jaguars junior guard T.J. Sanchez was a steady presence, evenly distributing 16 points across all four quarters.
Kaleb Stewart led the Patriots (4-3) with 11 points, and he accounted for all but two of their points in the third.
Capital takes on host Grants at 7 p.m. Friday for a spot in the tournament championship game Saturday.
