Auditions upcoming for Norfolk Community Theatres final play of the season

January 8, 2019

NORFOLK - Auditions for the Norfolk Community Theatre’s last play of the season start Tuesday.

The play called Tribes has roles for three women and three men with deaf and hearing impaired welcome.

Director of the play and board member Libby McKay says Tribes is set in contemporary times and is about an English family that has a deaf son.

“They have chosen not to sign with Billy the deaf son. Now he’s a grown man and we’re going to see some of the effects of that choice. He ends up meeting a woman who is losing her hearing, but she was born hearing to a deaf family so it’s kind of this collision of worlds and they fall in love.”

McKay says the play will be a first in the Norfolk Community Theatres history to incorporate American Sign Language into the performance.

Auditions will be at 7 P.M. Tuesday and Wednesday at the Cox Activities Center on the campus of Northeast Community College.
