Scrooges steal casino holiday decor
MICHIGAN CITY – The “Bah! Humbug!” spirit is apparently alive and well in Michigan City, where two women were caught on video stealing Christmas decorations from the Blue Chip Casino, Hotel and Spa.
Police were called to the casino at 777 Blue Chip Drive about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday for a reported theft.
The security supervisor told officers that two women came to the casino on Saturday night and stole a Christmas wreath and another holiday wall decoration, police said.
Surveillance footage showed the women lingering near the hotel check-in area, where one of them took a decoration off the wall and put it under her coat, the security supervisor told police. They then went into the Vegas Baby bar, where their IDs were scanned
They stayed in the bar for a couple of hours, and left about 1 a.m. Sunday. They then went back toward the hotel check-in desk, grabbed the Christmas wreath off the desk and walked out.
The security supervisor said their names came up on the ID check and he gave them to police. He provided images of the women, ages 25 and 38, entering the bar, but said he could only show the video to a detective.
Police were investigating the incident, and said the women could be charged with felony theft of property over $750. No arrests had been made as of Thursday.
