Vanderbilt 88, Ga. Southern 70

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) _ Zuzana Klimesova scored 21 points as No. 25 Vanderbilt steadily pulled away from Georgia Southern for an 88-70 victory Wednesday night.

The Commodores (1-1) may have lost Candice Storey, who collapsed with 2:37 remaining after appearing to injure her left knee. Storey, Vanderbilt’s captain and only senior, was taken for an MRI.

After trailing 6-1 for the first 4:17, Vanderbilt went on a 35-14 run during the rest of the first half.

Klimesova and Ashley McElhiney had nine points each in the first half for the Commodores, who dominated inside, outscoring the Lady Eagles 52-20 from the lane.

McElhiney finished with 18 points for Vanderbilt. Chantelle Anderson scored 17, Jillian Danker had 12, and Jenni Benningfield had 10.

Sharon Mitchell led the Lady Eagles (1-1) with 16 points. Danna Simpson added 14 and Sarah Davis 13.
