2: Floods hit Sauk County
A decade after floods in the summer of 2008 wreaked havoc on Sauk County, history repeated itself.
Heavy rain in late August and early September led to flooding that caused $9 million in damage to about 400 homes throughout the county. Roughly 50 businesses were impacted and public infrastructure sustained more than $12 million in damage.
Public workers from numerous agencies helped people in the flood-prone areas prepare as river levels rose. Those impacted still are recovering.
A fundraising effort through the nonprofit Greater Sauk County Community Foundation in the aftermath of the floods netted $305,000 as of Friday. That will help with the recovery, along with any federal funds that are received.
