Ex-Lover Arrested in Pa. Man’s Slaying
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) _ A man who told police he had been stabbed by his ex-lover has been charged in the other man’s death.
Kenneth Stephens, 21, told police he was stabbed during a domestic argument Jan. 28. He also told authorities Michael Pierson, a 40-year-old health educator who was active in the gay community, had fled after the dispute.
Pierson’s body turned up six weeks later in a pond. He had been stabbed once in the chest.
``(Stephens) never indicated that Mr. Pierson had been stabbed or injured in any manner,″ Trooper Chuck Sands said Friday.
Stephens was arrested Thursday on charges of criminal homicide. His lawyer, Nanda Palissery, said his client appears to have acted in self-defense.
``Mr. Stephens suffered at least eight to 15 stab wounds himself,″ several of them to his neck, Palissery said. Stephens was hospitalized for a few days afterward.
