Small chance of thunderstorms, possible tornado in Fairfield, Litchfield counties

August 1, 2018

Forecasters have warned of a small chance of thunderstorms and maybe even a tornado in Fairfield and Litchfield counties on Wednesday.

The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook for southern and northwestern Connecticut, as well as southern, eastern and east central New York, western Massachusetts, southern Vermont and northeast New Jersey.

The service advised of a marginal to slight chance for severe thunderstorms throughout the day and into early night on Wednesday in Fairfield County. The main threat is damaging winds, but an isolated tornado or water spout is also possible, according to the National Weather Service.

In Litchfield County, there is a chance of thunderstorms during the day and into the night, with a slight risk for severe thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. Gusty winds are again the primary threat, but forecasters have not ruled out an isolated thunderstorm. Heavy downpours could also cause flash flooding.
