Maranatha knocks off Dominican in opener

The Maranatha University men’s basketball team took down visiting Dominican 76-65 on Saturday in a season-opening game.

The Sabercats’ Rob Sonnenberg finished with 16 points and seven rebounds. Teammate David Lerma totaled 15 points and Jonathan Book added 12 points and nine boards for Maranatha.

The victory marked Maranatha’s first against Dominican in 17 games between the two teams.

The Sabercats shot 50 percent from the field and held the Stars to three points from the free throw line.

Maranatha is back in action on Tuesday at Knox College in Galesburg, Ill., at 7 p.m.
