WELL PROJECT BUST

BUFFALO, S.D. — Forty natural gas wells that were drilled from 2006 to 2010 among the grassy plains and buttes near the town of Buffalo have been idled since the project fell dormant amid a series of problems. They could cost more than $1 million to plug. One state lawmaker worries that the state might try to shift responsibility for some of the dormant wells to landowners. UPCOMING: 300 words.
