USA Triathlon champsionships, Flat Out Friday: Where to Rock the Lake the weekend of Aug. 10-12
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Ready to rock the lake this weekend? USA Triathlon is hosting its age group national championships at Edgewater Park, and Carlos Jones is playing in the Flats.

Sunset Sprint 5K: The Greater Cleveland Sports Commission will host its inaugural race at Edgewater Park, in partnership with USA Triathlon’s Age Group Nationals. Starting and ending at the official triathlon finish line, the race will run entirely along the all-purpose trail at the newly renovated Edgewater Park and beach area. 6:30 p.m.
Flat Out Friday: Carlos Jones and the Plus Band plays at the August Flat Out Friday in the Flats East Bank. The event celebrates summer with music, sweet treats, beverages. Admission is free, and proceeds benefit non-profits. 7 p.m.
Cleveland Dragon Boat Festival: After years on the Cuyahoga River and last year at Whiskey Island, the annual competition of dragon boat teams will take place on Black River Landing in Lorain. Dragon Boat teams — many of which consist of breast cancer survivors — have 22 paddlers in a 40-foot boat.
Walleye Madness Tournament: Two of the four Walleye Madness Tournaments take place on Lake Erie. The team with the five biggest walleye win. Entry fee is $150 for each, with 100 percent of the fee going for prize money. Assuming there are 50 boats, first prize is $3,400. Bonus prizes include $200 for the biggest fish caught. Lake Erie Conneaut (Port Authority Launch) 7 a.m.–3 p.m.
National USA Triathlon Age Group Championships: The Olympic-Distance Age Group National Championship — which participants must qualify for — will take place on Saturday, Aug. 11, at Edgewater Park. The Sprint National Championship will occur on Sunday, Aug. 12, and anyone is welcome to enter. Athletes will swim in Lake Erie and bike and run along the lake shore overlooking downtown Cleveland. Participants of both races have the chance to compete for Age Group National Titles as well as spots on Team USA in 2019.
