Sato leads Hiroshima to 4-3 win over Vegalta in J-League
TOKYO (AP) — Hisato Sato scored two goals as Sanfrecce Hiroshima beat Vegalta Sendai 4-3 on the opening matchday of the J-League’s second stage.
Sato opened the scoring in the 12th minute and widened the lead to 3-1 with his ninth goal of the season in first half stoppage time.
Yoshifumi Kashiwa made it 4-1 for Hiroshima before the hosts scored two late goals.
Sato moved within three goals of equaling the all-time J-League record of 157 held by former Japan international Masashi Nakayama.
In other matches on Saturday, Elsinho and Brazilian compatriot Renato scored second-half goals as Kawasaki Frontale beat FC Tokyo 2-0.
Yuki Muto and Shinzo Koroki scored to give first-stage champions Urawa Reds a 2-1 win over Matsumoto Yamaga. Shonan Bellmare beat Nagoya Grampus 2-1.
Last season’s treble winners Gamba Osaka beat Ventforet Kofu 2-1 courtesy of a goal by Takashi Usami in the 90th minute. Usami leads the league with 14 goals.
Yasushi Endo scored in stoppage time to give Kashima Antlers a 3-2 win over Albirex Niigata and Vissel Kobe thrashed Shimizu S-Pulse 5-0.
Sagan Tosu beat Kashiwa Reysol 3-2 while Yokohama F Marinos and Montedio Yamagata finished in a 1-1 draw.
