Otis Nixon Out for Jaw Surgery

April 28, 1998

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) _ Minnesota Twins outfielder Otis Nixon will miss at least two weeks so he can have surgery to repair a broken jaw that hasn’t healed properly.

Nixon went 3-for-5 Monday night in the Twins’ 9-4 loss to the Texas Rangers after he learned he will need surgery this week.

General manager Terry Ryan said Nixon will have surgery Wednesday.

Nixon was kicked in the jaw while breaking up a double play against Kansas City on April 4 but has missed just four games.

He said his jaw slipped out of alignment recently and he was experiencing tingling in his mouth.

``Every two hours while sleeping, I’ve had to get up and put a heat pack on it,″ he said.

He’s expected to be put on the 15-day disabled list.
