Policies offered for water, sewer
Fort Wayne City Utilities has entered into a partnership with American Water Resources to help residential customers handle unexpected repairs to water and sewer lines that run through their property.
“We are excited to provide our customers an affordable and easy way to protect themselves from the unexpected cost of service line repairs through this new partnership with American Water Resources,” Director of City Utilities Kumar Menon said in a statement Tuesday.
“Through this program, eligible City Utilities residential customers will now have access to American Water Resources’ protection programs, which can help provide peace of mind if a service line problem occurs.”
Homeowners who are City Utilities customers will be able to enroll in protection programs to help prevent financial hardship should one or more of their service lines become damaged.
Homeowners are responsible for the maintenance of sewer lines that connect a house to the public sewer line under the street or alley.
Normal wear and tear can refer to damage from tree roots and seasonal changes as well as water line breaks between the curb and the house. Such damage is typically not covered by homeowners insurance or home warranties.
“Service line problems can be caused by normal wear and tear and can happen at any time,” American Water Resources President Eric Palm said in a statement.
“These problems are typically not covered by homeowners’ insurance and can be complicated and expensive to fix. American Water Resources is pleased to partner with City Utilities to provide service line programs to homeowners in Fort Wayne and the surrounding area.”
The program will allow eligible customers to pay a monthly fee to receive protection for covered water and sewer repairs.
Information about the program is available at www.awrusa.com/FortWayne or by calling 844-765-7263. Eligible customers will begin receiving details via mail about the program this week.
