Man critical in officer shooting
No more details have emerged about the officer-involved shooting Saturday morning in the 1500 block of Production Road.
The Fort Wayne Police Department released a statement that said officers responded to that areaabout 3 a.m. in reference to an apparent shooting and were advised en route that the shooting involved an officer.
The release did not say whether the officer was on or off duty, nor did it describe circumstances that may have led to the shooting. The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition, and the officer had no apparent injuries.
The industrial area was quiet Saturday afternoon except for a few cars outside Cover Girls, a strip club.
Inside, Karmen Jones, the day manager, said the shooting was not inside the club and she did not know if the victim had been a patron.
The shooting “has nothing to do with our business,” Jones said.
At the time of the shooting, detectives and crime scene technicians were called to the scene to investigate.
Detectives spoke with officers and any witnesses to get an idea of the events that took place before the shooting happened.
Crime scene technicians were also looking for any possible evidence associated with the incident, the release said.
The shooting is being investigated by the police department, Indiana State Police and the Allen County prosecutor’s office.
