Israelis and Soviets to Meet in Helsinki
HELSINKI, Finland (AP) _ Soviet and Israeli diplomats will meet here Aug. 18-19 for talks on consular matters, an Israeli diplomat said Wednesday.
The Soviet Union severed diplomatic relations with Israel during the 1967 Arab-Israeli war.
Tova Levy, first secretary at the Israeli embassy in Helsinki, told The Associated Press that two diplomats and an interpreter would make up the Israeli delegation. The Soviets were expected to send a four-member delegation, Levy said.
The names of the two sides’ representatives were not available and the precise site of the meeting has not yet been decided, Levy said.
Israeli and Soviet officials said earlier the talks would open in mid- August in Helsinki, but they gave few details.
