Onekama man dies following vehicle accident Friday in Manistee
MANISTEE — A 71-year-old Onekama man has died following a single vehicle crash in the 200 block of Arthur Street in Manistee.
Responders from the Manistee police and fire departments responded to the scene of the crash at approximately 4:49 p.m. Friday, according to a statement from Manistee Director of Public Safety Timothy Kozal.
Upon arrival, officers found the Onekama man unresponsive, with CPR already in progress.
Paramedics continued to attempt lifesaving efforts while the man — who was the lone occupant of the vehicle — was transported to Munson Healthcare Manistee Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
An accident reconstructionist from the Michigan State Police started an investigation of the incident, according to Kozal, who said the initial results indicate that the Onekama man’s vehicle was was traveling northbound on Arthur Street and left the roadway to the east at La Riviera Restaurant, striking several bollards and the building itself before coming to a stop at the east end of the parking lot.
There are no indications of foul play, Kozal stated, but noted that the accident is still under investigation.
Kozal said an autopsy will be conducted.
The Manistee County Sheriff’s and the Manistee Township Fire Department assisted.
