Odd traffic lanes on Main Street in Boise to be repainted
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — County officials in southwestern Idaho say heavily traveled Main Street in Boise will have the traffic lines partially repainted following the creation of confusing new lanes.
Ada County officials tell the Idaho Statesman in a story on Thursday that lane striping put in place following a resurfacing project added bike lanes and left-turn lanes on Main Street and Fairview Avenue.
Ada County Highway County spokeswoman Natalie Shaver says it worked well on paper but not so well in real life.
Drivers in some areas now end up maneuvering nearly a full lane to one side to stay within the traffic lines.
Officials say the design had problems and then some of the lines weren’t painted as expected. The bike lanes will be retained with the new traffic striping.
The initial cost for the project was about $400,000.
