Native Plant Center to host Earth Day celebration
SOUTH PADRE ISLAND — With Earth Day right around the corner, several environmental festivities are set for this weekend.
One of those being, the Native Plant Center’s free all-in-one Earth Day celebration that will be held this Saturday at its facility, 6809 Padre Boulevard.
The event will feature the center’s “largest plant sale of the year,” a dedication of the spiritual labyrinth, a groundbreaking ceremony for the center’s butterfly garden and a tree planting ceremony.
The Native Plant Center will open at 10 a.m. and the public is invited to participate in planting trees and small plants throughout the day.
The butterfly garden groundbreaking ceremony will be held at noon with the Port Isabel Driftwood Garden Club.
The spiritual labyrinth dedication will be held around 3 p.m. with UTRGV students from the Edinburg environmental science department.
In the evening, from 5 to 9 p.m. the center will host an open grill, potluck bonfire. Visitors are encouraged to bring their guitars, ukuleles or drums and play music during the gathering.
