Two East Idaho juveniles die when pickup rear-ends tanker truck
ST. ANTHONY — Two East Idaho teens died late Tuesday night when their pickup rear-ended a tanker truck near this Fremont County city, Idaho State Police said.
State police refused to provide the deceased teens’ names but Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg identified them as Tanner Nicol and Teagen Bradshaw, both age 17.
The teens were from Salem, a small community located north of Rexburg.
State police said the crash occurred around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday on U.S. Highway 20 when Elmer D. Nelson, 60, of Idaho Falls, was driving a Kenworth fuel tanker truck westbound and came to a stop at a railroad crossing. Nicol and Bradshaw were driving in a 1998 Chevy C15 pickup behind Nelson and rear-ended his tanker, authorities said.
State police said the teens both died at the scene.
Nelson was wearing his seat belt while the teens were not wearing theirs, state police said. Authorities have not said which of the teens was driving the pickup at the time of the crash.
The wreck shut down Highway 20 for about four hours, state police said.
Multiple emergency units from the state police, Fremont County and St. Anthony responded to the crash.
Funeral services for Nicol and Bradshaw are set for Saturday.
