EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — South Africa's Caster Semenya is preparing to defend her 800-meter title at the Prefontaine Classic amid controversy over international track and field's impending rule that could limit her from competing at the distance in the future.
Semenya won the 1,500 in a South African-record time earlier this month in Doha. She'll attempt to defend her Diamond League 800 title on Saturday at Eugene's historic Hayward Field.

The unique team competition — the brainchild of TrackTown President Vin Lananna — made its debut last year in Eugene, Oregon. It was a one-off meet that was overshadowed by the Olympic Trials and ultimately the Rio Games.

PASADENA, Calif. (AP) — Olympians Greg Louganis, Janet Evans and Allyson Felix have been named co-grand marshals of the 2017 Rose Parade.
The Tournament of Roses announced the selections Thursday at a ceremony in Pasadena, California.

Thompson led only in the final five meters to clock 21.85 seconds — .07 outside the new Jamaican star's gold medal-winning time in Rio de Janeiro.
Schippers of the Netherlands timed 21.86, the second-fastest of her career, after tying up in the final strides when Thompson surged.
