Nastase tennis bans reduced 8 months on appeal, fine doubled
LONDON (AP) — Ilie Nastase had two tennis bans reduced by eight months and his fine doubled to $20,000 on Wednesday following his appeal of International Tennis Federation sanctions for foul-mouthed comments and misconduct as the Romanian Fed Cup captain.
Nastase banned from Fed Cup and Davis Cup until 2019
LONDON (AP) — Ilie Nastase has been banned from the Fed Cup and Davis Cup until 2019 because of his foul-mouthed comments and bad behavior as Romania's captain during a Fed Cup tie in April.
In addition to the ban, the International Tennis Federation said on Friday the 1973 French Open champion will not be able to work in an official capacity for a further two years, until 2021.
The 71-year-old Nastase was also fined $10,000. He has three weeks to appeal the decision.
PARIS (AP) — Former champion Ilie Nastase is banned from attending the French Open.
A brief statement on the French Open's official Twitter account on Saturday said "following his suspension by the ITF, Mr Ilie Nastase won't be accredited" for the tournament in Paris.
Serena Williams speaks out against Ilie Nastase
BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) — Serena Williams has spoken out in response to suspended Fed Cup captain Ilie Nastase's comments speculating about the skin color of the baby the pregnant Williams is expecting.
The 23-time major champion wrote on Instagram on Monday: "It disappoints me to know we live in a society where people like Ilie Nastase can make such racist comments towards myself and (my) unborn child."

Nastase ejected from Romania Fed Cup tie after tirade
CONSTANTA, Romania (AP) — Romania Fed Cup captain Ilie Nastase was thrown out of the playoff against Britain after abusing players and the umpire on Saturday.
The 70-year-old Nastase also publicly hurled insults at a British journalist in Constanta, a day after apparently making racially offensive comments about Serena Williams' pregnancy.
International Tennis Federation president David Haggerty condemned Nastase for his "unacceptable behavior," and the body also began an investigation.
Keothavong succeeds Judy Murray as Britain Fed Cup captain
LONDON (AP) — Former tour player Anne Keothavong has been chosen to succeed Judy Murray as captain of Britain's Fed Cup team.
The 33-year-old Keothavong was appointed national women's team coach and Fed Cup captain on Tuesday by the Lawn Tennis Association.
Keothavong takes over the Fed Cup captaincy from Murray, the mother of top-ranked male player Andy Murray. She stepped down in March after five years as captain to concentrate on other roles.
