PHOENIX (AP) — Authorities say the main route between Phoenix and Las Vegas has reopened after a car crash closed part of a freeway for about two hours.
Arizona Department of Transportation officials say the northbound lanes of U.S. 93 were closed south of Interstate 40 due to Thursday evening's accident.
Light rain fell most of the day in the Phoenix area, but it's unclear if the crash was weather related.

Stop of fake delivery van nets marijuana seizure, arrest
PHOENIX (AP) — Arizona Department of Transportation law enforcement officers seized a half-ton of marijuana after stopping what proved to be a fake delivery van in the state's far northwestern corner.
ADOT says 1,113 pounds (505 kilograms) of marijuana and other drugs were seized Wednesday evening after Officer Tanner Martin spotted the van on Interstate 15 near Nevada and Utah.
Thermal camera system helps stop wrong-way driver in Phoenix
PHOENIX (AP) — The Arizona Department of Transportation is crediting its thermal camera-based wrong-way vehicle detection system with stopping an accident from happening on a Phoenix freeway.
They say the detection system alerted authorities and other motorists early Monday about a pickup truck being driven the wrong way on Interstate 17.
State Department of Public Safety troopers took the driver into custody and nobody was injured.
Pack of dogs stop traffic on Phoenix freeway
PHOENIX (AP) — Authorities say a group of dogs narrowly avoided injury while roaming a Phoenix freeway during Monday morning traffic.
The Arizona Department of Transportation shared images on its Twitter account of six dogs walking in the southbound lanes of Interstate 17 near Grand Avenue around 9:45 a.m.
The images also showed drivers stopping for them as well.
Lawmaker proposes repeal of new $32 vehicle-registration fee
PHOENIX (AP) — An Arizona state lawmaker wants to repeal a new $32 annual public-safety fee on vehicle registrations that proved to be larger than anticipated.
Republican Sen.-elect Michelle Ugenti-Rita of Scottsdale prefiled a repeal bill Friday for consideration during the legislative session that starts in January.
Arizona state highway closing at North Rim for winter
PHOENIX (AP) — Arizona transportation officials say State Route 67 between Jacob Lake and the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park will close for the snow season next Monday.
The Arizona Department of Transportation shuts down the highway every winter because it doesn't clear snow from the roadway as North Rim visitor accommodations are closed during that time.
The state highway doesn't reopen until the spring, usually around May. US 89A remains open in the winter.

APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. (AP) — The Arizona Department of Transportation has finished a $6.5 million yearlong safety improvement project for State Route 88, a scenic, historic and windy road in hill country between metro Phoenix's outskirts and Theodore Roosevelt Lake.
Also known as the Apache Trail, the highway provides access to recreation areas along the Salt River. The route was used in the early 20th Century to haul supplies for construction of Roosevelt Dam.

PHOENIX (AP) — Voting rights organizations are suing Arizona Secretary of State Michele Reagan over concerns that her office isn't updating voters' addresses.
The American Civil Liberties Union of Arizona on Monday announced the lawsuit from multiple voter rights organizations including the League of Women Voters of Arizona. They're concerned that Reagan's office doesn't update voter registration information when someone changes their address on their driver's license.
Arizona Sec of State rejects ACLU voter registration request
PHOENIX (AP) — Arizona Secretary of State Michele Reagan has rejected a request to unilaterally change more than 500,000 voter registration addresses to the address listed on driver's licenses.
She says the American Civil Liberties Union wrote a letter to her office late last year.
US 95 closed south of Quartzsite because of flowing runoff
QUARTZSITE, Ariz. (AP) — A section of U.S. 95 in western Arizona was closed Saturday morning because of storm runoff flowing through washes across the north-south highway.
The Arizona Department of Transportation says the closure is about 20 miles (32 kilometers) south of Quartzsite and that there's no estimated time to reopen the highway.

A new statewide report released Tuesday says 2017 marked the third straight year of increases for traffic fatalities. The total was up from 952 in 2016 and 897 in 2015.
