Theriaut clinches ARCA title before finale at Kansas
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — There is no long, convoluted story about how Austin Theriault came to Ken Schrader Racing, forging a team that so dominated the ARCA Series that it captured the title simply by showing up for the finale.
"We both wanted something to do," the folksy Schrader said with a smile and shrug before Friday night's race at Kansas Speedway. "He didn't have a car to drive and I didn't have a driver."
Dalton Sargeant wins ARCA race at Iowa Speedway
NEWTON, Iowa (AP) — Dalton Sargeant won the ARCA Racing Series event at Iowa Speedway on Saturday night, holding off points leader Austin Theriault.
The 19-year-old Sargeant, from Boca Raton, Florida, won for the second time this season in the No. 77 Cunningham Motorsports Ford — the ride that Chase Briscoe drove to the series title last year.
Sargeant edged Theriault out of pit road after the final caution came out when Eric Caudell spun on the backstretch.
BROOKLYN, Mich. (AP) — Brandon Jones won at Michigan for a second consecutive year, racing to his fourth career ARCA victory Friday.
Jones, who races full time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, finished nearly 21 seconds ahead of second-place Austin Theriault in the 100-lap, 200-mile race. Jones was making his second ARCA start of the year. He finished second last weekend at Pocono.
Theriault, the ARCA points leader, has six top-five finishes in eight races this season.
