Henderson and Etou’s big second half to leads Tulsa over SMU
TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Corey Henderson Jr. scored 18 points and Junior Etou added a double-double with 17 points and 15 rebounds as Tulsa beat SMU 76-67 on Thursday night.
The win moved the Golden Hurricane (12-10, 5-5 American Athletic Conference) into a tie with the Mustangs (15-8, 5-5) in conference play.
Ben Emelogu II scored a career-high 24 points for SMU, which was without leading scorer Shake Milton (right hand injury). Jahmal McMurray added a season-high 22 points for the Mustangs.
Whitt, McMurray lead SMU past ECU 86-61
DALLAS (AP) — Jimmy Whitt scored a career-high 20 points, Jahmal McMurray made four 3-pointers and also scored 20 and SMU beat East Carolina 86-61 on Sunday.
Ethan Chargois added 16 points with three treys and a game-high six rebounds, Ben Emelogu II also had a trio of 3-pointers and scored 13 and Shake Milton had 11 as all the SMU starters scored in double figures.
The Mustangs (15-7, 5-4 American) shot 62 percent including 11 of 20 from the arc in winning for the third time in four games.
Milton heats up in 2nd half, helps SMU beat Tulane 73-62
DALLAS (AP) — Shake Milton scored 18 of his 20 points in the second half, and SMU pulled away in the final five minutes to beat Tulane 73-62 on Saturday night.
SMU (14-6, 4-3 American Athletic Conference) returned home after beating No. 7 Wichita State, 83-78 on Wednesday night, and rebounded from a buzzer-beating loss against Temple on Jan. 10 that snapped a 33-game home winning streak. The Mustangs also avenged a three-point loss on Jan. 4 against Tulane (12-7, 3-4).
Emelogu keeps SMU perfect at home, dominates Cal Poly, 84-64
DALLAS (AP) — Ben Emelogu II did not miss, knocking down all five 3-pointers, another field goal and both free throws to amass 19 points as SMU dominated Cal Poly, 84-64 to win its 31st straight home game Tuesday night.
Shake Milton was 4 of 8 from behind the three-point arc, grabbed eight boards and dished six assists for the Mustangs. Overall SMU was 15 of 28 from behind the arc, hitting 53.6 percent of their shots from long range.
SMU ends Boise State streak with 86-63 win
DALLAS (AP) — Jimmy Whitt, Jahmal McMurray and Ethan Chargois scored 16 points apiece and SMU beat Boise State 86-63 on Monday night, ending the Broncos' six-game win streak.
Ben Emelogu II added 12 points and Shake Milton scored 11 with seven rebounds and seven assists for SMU. The Mustangs (9-3) are 8-0 at home and have won 30 straight at Moody Coliseum, the second-longest active streak nationally.
SMU coasts to 72-37 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff
DALLAS (AP) — Ben Emelogu II and Everett Ray got their first career double-doubles to help propel SMU past Arkansas-Pine Bluff for a 72-37 win Saturday.
Shake Milton sank four 3-pointers and finished with 17 points and Jimmy Whitt added 12 points and six assists for SMU (4-0), which extended its home win streak to 26 games, the third longest active streak in the NCAA.
SMU throttles cold-shooting Northwestern State 81-35
DALLAS (AP) — Jarrey Foster scored 19 points, Ben Emelogu II had 17 points and a career-high nine rebounds, and SMU routed Northwestern State 81-35 on Wednesday night.
Northwestern State made only 12 field goals — three coming in the first half— and shot 24.5 percent for the game. The Demons missed 21 straight shots over 17-plus minutes in the first half.
Milton scores 28, leads SMU comeback to beat UMBC, 78-67
DALLAS (AP) — Shake Milton tossed in 28 points and SMU overcame a seven-point halftime deficit to beat Maryland-Baltimore County, 78-67 in the season opener Friday night.
UMBC maintained a lead until Milton hit a pair of free throws and Ben Emelogu II nailed a 3 to give the Mustangs a 66-63 lead.
Milton was a perfect 10-for-10 shooting from the line and knocked down six free throws down the stretch to help SMU seal the win.
SMU downs UCF 65-60 behind Milton’s 19 points
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Shake Milton scored 19 points, Semi Ojeleye added 14, and SMU beat UCF 65-60 on Wednesday night to win its fourth straight.
Ben Moore scored 14 and Sterling Brown made three 3-pointers for his 100th career trey for the Mustangs (18-4, 8-1 American).
Trailing 35-26 at halftime, UCF closed to 60-56 with 49 seconds left to play after B.J. Taylor's back-to-back jumpers. SMU led 62-56 after Milton's two free throws but Tacko Fall dunked to make it 62-58.
SMU defense stymies East Carolina in 75-44 blowout win
GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Ben Moore scored 18 points and all five SMU starters finished in double figures as the Mustangs cruised to a 75-44 win over East Carolina on Saturday.
Moore finished 8 of 10 from the field and added 11 rebounds. Shake Milton finished with 14 points, Sterling Brown had 13, while Jarrey Foster and Semi Ojeleye added 12 apiece for the Mustangs (12-3, 2-0 American).
