Gurley lifts Furman over VMI 96-62
GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Noah Gurley had 19 points to lead five Furman players in double figures as the Paladins easily defeated VMI 96-62 on Saturday. Clay Mounce and Mike Bothwell added 13 points apiece for the Paladins. Matt Rafferty and Tre Clark chipped in 12 points each. Rafferty also had 10 rebounds and seven assists for the Paladins.
Bubba Parham had 16 points for the Keydets (7-19, 1-13 Southern Conference), who have now lost seven straight games. Sarju Patel added seven rebounds.
Murphy scores 19 to lead Wofford past VMI 95-84
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — Storm Murphy had 19 points as Wofford won its 13th consecutive game, defeating VMI 95-84 on Thursday night.
Fletcher Magee had 18 points for Wofford (22-4, 14-0 Southern Conference). Chevez Goodwin added 10 rebounds.
VMI put up 56 second-half points, a season high for the team.
Bubba Parham had 30 points for the Keydets (7-18, 1-12), who have now lost six consecutive games. Myles Lewis scored a career-high 22 points. Sarju Patel had 14 points.
Austin, Guerrero carry Samford past VMI 84-77 in OT
LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) — Brandon Austin and Ruben Guerrero scored 19 points apiece as Samford topped VMI 84-77 in overtime on Saturday.
Samford scored seven of the first nine points in overtime.
In the final seconds of regulation, VMI's Bubba Parham made one of two free throws to give the Keydets a 70-68 lead, then Samford's Brandon Austin tied it with a layup.
Josh Sharkey added 15 points for Samford. Guerrero also had 12 rebounds and three blocks for the Bulldogs, while Sharkey posted nine assists.
Smallwood scores 16, Chattanooga tops VMI 71-70
LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) — Thomas Smallwood scored 16 points, including four of Chattanooga's 12 3-pointers and the Mocs defeated VMI 71-70 on Thursday night.
Smallwood, a 7-foot backup center who averages 6.1 points per game, made all four of his 3-point tries and the Mocs (11-14, 6-6 Southern Conference) made 12 of 30 for 40 percent. Ramon Vila, David Jean-Baptiste and Donovann Toatley scored 11 each for UTC.

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Demetrius Troy and Isaiah Miller scored 20 points apiece to help UNC Greensboro beat VMI 93-66 on Thursday night for its sixth consecutive win over the Keydets.
Stallworth scores 29, Williams beats buzzer in Citadel win
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Quayson Williams drove the length of the court for the winning layup as time expired and The Citadel defeated rival VMI 84-82 on Saturday.
VMI's Garrett Gilkeson grabbed an offensive rebound and missed the follow-up in heavy traffic with four seconds remaining. The Citadel's Zane Najdawi grabbed that rebound and threw a short outlet to Williams who raced to the other end for his only points of the game.
Cummings scores 24, helps Mercer put away VMI 88-68

LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) — Nathan Hoover scored 25 points, Cameron Jackson 23 and Wofford forced 22 turnovers to defeat VMI 90-76 on Saturday, pushing its win streak to five games.
Hoover went 10 for 19 from the floor with three 3-pointers, Jackson was 9 of 14 and added 10 rebounds — his fourth double-double this season. Wofford (14-4, 6-0 Southern) shot 51 percent.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Ruben Guerrero scored 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds as Samford rolled past VMI 96-68 in a Southern Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.
Guerrero was 8 of 11 from the field for the Bulldogs (11-4, 1-1). Kevion Nolan added 15 points and five assists and Josh Sharkey, Stefan Lakic and Logan Dye had 11 points apiece.
Samford shot 56.5 percent from the field compared to 35 percent for VMI and had a 46-28 rebounding advantage.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) — Freshman Kevin Easley tossed in a career-high 26 points and tied his career best with eight rebounds to propel Chattanooga to an 83-65 victory over VMI in a Southern Conference opener on Sunday.
American beats VMI 74-64 for best start since 2010-11 season
LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) — Sa'eed Nelson scored 26 points, Sam Iorio had 18 points and 14 rebounds and American beat VMI 74-64 on Tuesday night.
American (4-1) is off to its best start since the 2010-11 season.
Marvin Bragg opened a 10-0 run and Iorio closed it for an 11-point lead with 7:37 left in the game. VMI was within 68-64 with 1:35 to play but American made 6 of 8 free throws down the stretch.
B. Parham tops 30 pts again; VMI downs Kentucky Christian
LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) — Bubba Parham had another big night, scoring 33 points in 34 minutes, and VMI beat Kentucky Christian 106-80 on Tuesday night.
On Sunday, the 5-foot-11 Parham scored a career-high 35 points in a 92-82 loss to No. 10 Kentucky. He shot 11 of 20 from the field, including 10 of 16 from 3-point range. Against the Knights, Parham was 9-of-21 shooting, 5 of 11 from 3-point range and made 10 of 11 foul shots.

Bubba Parham, the VMI's leading scorer, added 14, nine coming in the last 4:36 on a pair of jumpers and five of six at the foul line. He led with seven assists.

East Tennessee’s Bradford, Wofford’s Magee win SoCon awards
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — East Tennessee guard Desonta Bradford and Wofford guard Fletcher Magee have won Southern Conference player of the year awards.
Bradford was the choice of league coaches while Magee earned the honor from the SoCon media. The conference announced its postseason awards Wednesday.
The two voting groups also split on the league's top freshman with coaches awarding East Tennessee guard Bo Hodges and the media selecting VMI guard Bubba Parham.
VMI holds off Chattanooga 68-65 in Big South finale
LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) — Bubba Parham scored 16 points, Austin Vereen got a key steal leading to critical free throws for Garrett Gilkeson with 6.9 seconds left and VMI defeated Chattanooga 68-65 on Sunday.
The game that determined the No. 9 and No. 10 seeds for the Southern Conference Tournament that begins on Friday in Asheville, North Carolina, was decided when Makinde London's 3-pointer went off the rim as time expired.
Samford beats VMI 89-82
LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) — Eric Adams had 13 points and 12 rebounds Friday night and Samford held on for an 89-82 win over VMI.
The Bulldogs (10-20, 6-11 Southern) pulled away with a 16-5 run to lead 75-60 with 4:29 left, their largest lead of the game.
Austin Vereen's trio of free throws for the Keydets (8-20, 3-14) made it a two-possession game at 86-80 with 25 seconds left, but Josh Sharkey made 3 of 4 free throws to seal it for Samford.
Rivers sparks Mercer past VMI 82-58 for 4th straight win
MACON, Ga. (AP) — Demetre Rivers scored 21 points, five in a game-opening 7-0 run, to lead Mercer to a wire-to-wire 82-58 victory over VMI on Thursday night.
Rivers sank 7 of 8 shots from the floor, including 3 of 4 from 3-point range, as the Bears (14-13, 7-7 Southern Conference) shot 52 percent overall and 44 percent from distance in posting their fourth straight win.
Parks scores 16, Western Carolina fends off VMI 72-60
LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) — Deriece Parks scored 16 points, Matt Halvorson added 14 and Western Carolina fended off a late challenge to defeat VMI 72-60 Thursday night, winning a third straight game.
Marcus Thomas added 13 points for the Catamounts (12-13, 7-5 Southern Conference), who shot 50 percent (27 of 54) and made 10 3-pointers. Parks hit four from distance and Halvorson three.
UNC Greensboro downs VMI 73-51
GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Marvin Smith scored 13 points with three 3-pointers, James Dickey added 12 points with 10 rebounds, and UNC Greensboro never trailed in beating VMI 73-51 on Thursday night to take sole possession of second place in the Southern Conference.
Jordy Kuiper added 10 points for the Spartans (17-6, 8-2), who outscored the Keydets 28-16 in the paint and scored 20 points off of 23 VMI turnovers.
Vereen’s bucket gives VMI 70-69 win at Chattanooga
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) — Austin Vereen scored off a backdoor cut with six seconds left and VMI defeated Chattanooga 70-69 on Saturday.
The victory between the two teams in the Southern Conference cellar gave the Keydets (7-13, 2-7) consecutive wins at Chattanooga for the first time since winning their first two matchups contested there in 1978-79 and 1979-80.
Wofford jumps out early, cruises past VMI 63-46
LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) — Trevor Stumpe scored 19 points and Wofford rolled to a 63-46 victory over VMI on Wednesday night for its seventh straight win.
Stumpe made three 3-pointers and was 6-of-10 shooting. Storm Murphy added 13 points, and Fletcher Magee had 12 points to surpass 1,500 for his career at Wofford (15-5, 6-1 Southern).

LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) — Bubba Parham scored 24 points, Austin Vereen added 18 as VMI led the entire way to defeat The Citadel 88-81 on Saturday, halting a seven-game losing streak and claiming its first Southern Conference victory this season.
Vereen opened the game with back-to-back 3-pointers as the Keydets shot 50 percent, never trailed and led by as many as 19 before halftime.
Mercer holds off VMI 62-56 for 3rd straight win
LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) — Ria'n Holland had 16 points and Stephon Jelks added 13 with 11 rebounds as Mercer held off VMI 62-56 to gets its third straight win and even its Southern Conference record on Thursday night.
Holland hit 4 of 7 from deep, making 6 of 11 field goal attempts. Demetre Rivers added 13 points and Desmond Ringer grabbed 11 rebounds for Mercer (10-9, 3-3).
Coach Bob Hoffman picked up his 500th career victory, 189 of which have come at Mercer.
Gosselin, Amius lift Western Carolina over VMI 65-58
CULLOWHEE, N.C. (AP) — Marc Gosselin scored 16 points, Mike Amius had 13 with 12 rebounds and Western Carolina turned back VMI 65-58 on Monday night.
Ashley Williams also had 13 points for the Catamounts (8-10, 4-2 Southern Conference) and Deriece Parks had 11.
Bubba Parham had 20 points and Keither Smith, who was 4 for 4 from 3-point range, had 18 for the Keydets (5-11, 0-5), who have lost six straight.

LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) — Keith Smith had 19 points with six assists and Austin Vereen added 14 as VMI took its sixth straight win over Longwood, rolling to an 81-70 victory on Saturday afternoon.
Vereen came off the bench to drill four from distance and grab six rebounds. Tyler Creammer added 12 points with seven rebounds and Bubba Parham chipped in 11 points for VMI (4-5).
Radford uses big 2nd half to beat VMI 63-50
LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) — Ed Polite Jr. had 14 points and 12 rebounds, Devonnte Holland added 10 points and eight boards, and Radford beat VMI 63-50 on Saturday.
It was Polite's second straight double-double and third of the season.
Polite scored nine of Radford's first 14 points and the Highlanders led 30-26 at the break. A 14-2 run in the first four minutes of the second half made it 48-33 and Travis Fields Jr.'s second steal and layup of the game put Radford ahead 57-44.
Parham scores 19 points; VMI cruises past Ohio Valley 81-66
LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) — Bubba Parham scored 19 points to lead VMI to an 81-66 victory over Division II Ohio Valley on Tuesday night.
Parham was 8 of 16 from the floor but missed all six 3-point attempts. Keith Smith added 15 points for VMI (2-2). Jordan Ratliffe finished with 14.
Parker Black had 14 points and Kyle Mitchell chipped in 10 points for Ohio Valley.
