NEW YORK (AP) — The Tampa Bay Rays have activated slick-fielding shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria from the 10-day disabled list.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Max Scherzer pitched eight strong innings to become the first 10-game winner in the majors this season, striking out 13 in the Washington Nationals' 4-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night.
Scherzer (10-1) won his ninth consecutive decision while scattering five hits and did not allow a runner past second base until pinch hitter Brad Miller's two-out double in the eighth.
Sean Doolittle pitched the ninth for his 15th save in 16 opportunities.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Max Scherzer kept throwing strikes and the Tampa Bay Rays kept making outs.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Tampa Bay first baseman Brad Miller has been scratched from Monday's game with a facial contusion after hitting a ball that deflected off a protective screen and struck him near his left eye during batting practice.
Miller was immediately attended to by a team trainer and there was some light bleeding but nothing significant, according to a Rays spokesman.
Tampa Bay didn't announce the change until an hour before the scheduled first pitch.
Span back home with Rays, but for how long?
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (AP) — Denard Span concedes he's hesitant to get comfortable with the idea of playing for his hometown team.
The Tampa Bay Rays acquired the veteran outfielder this winter, but are trimming payroll and building for the future.
That leaves the 33-year-old Span, who's due to make $11 million this summer, uncertain what uniform he'll be wearing on opening day.
Giants acquire Evan Longoria from Rays for 4 players
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Evan Longoria expects to win immediately with the San Francisco Giants, whose run of success in even years is well documented — and the club's new third baseman knows all about that.
The Giants' brass realizes adding Longoria to the lineup and an already-talented infield gives San Francisco a far better chance of bouncing back from a surprising last-place season in the NL West.
ST. LOUIS (AP) — San Francisco Giants rookie Christian Arroyo has already had some memorable big league moments. He added perhaps his biggest on Saturday night.
Arroyo's two-run double broke a scoreless tie and the San Francisco Giants beat the St. Louis Cardinals 3-1 in 13 innings.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Giants left-hander Ty Blach finally got his first win of the season and was quick to spread the credit around.
There was the defense, particularly rookie Christian Arroyo, who made a pair of stellar plays in his first start at second base. A timely home run by Brandon Belt and an even more clutch tiebreaking hit from Brandon Crawford helped, too.
NEW YORK (AP) — In dire need of a break, the San Francisco Giants got one.
Christian Arroyo snapped a ninth-inning tie with a three-run double and the Giants took advantage of a critical error by third baseman Wilmer Flores, rallying past the New York Mets 6-5 on Wednesday to stop a five-game losing streak.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Michael Morse showed he has some power left in his 35-year-old swing, something he'd been telling Giants general manager Bobby Evans ever since signing a minor league contract last offseason.
The veteran bopper still has a flair for the dramatic, too.
Morse delivered a tying, pinch-hit homer in the eighth inning, Hunter Pence hit a game-winning sacrifice fly with the bases loaded in the 10th and the Giants rallied to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-3 on Wednesday night.
Matt Cain pitches Giants to 2-1 win against Dodgers
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Matt Cain took a ball off his right foot and X-rays showed all was fine, then his right hamstring tightened as he tried to warm up for the seventh and that shortened his night.
He still did plenty to help the Giants get back in the win column with a much-needed April victory.
Cain pitched six scoreless innings to beat the Dodgers for the first time in nearly four years, and San Francisco snapped a four-game losing streak with a 2-1 win against Los Angeles on Monday night.
