GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Two first-year head coaches will be on the sidelines when the Detroit Lions meet the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, and both have had a rough season.
"Yeah, your first year you're going to have struggles," Detroit defensive tackle Ricky Jean Francois said. "If you don't, you lucked up."
D.J. Humphries is latest Cardinal to go on season-ending IR
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — The Arizona Cardinals' bad injury situation got worse on Wednesday when starting left tackle D.J. Humphries was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury.
The move leaves rookie center Mason Cole as the only remaining member of the offensive line that began the season, and he took over late in the preseason when starter A.Q. Shipley went down with a season-ending knee injury. Guards Mike Iupati and Justin Pugh are on injured reserve and tackle Andre Smith was released.
Cardinals learn of long-term losses after victory over Pack
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — The Arizona Cardinals' satisfaction from their stunning victory over the Packers in Green Bay has been tempered by news that rookie wide receiver Christian Kirk and starting left guard Mike Iupati are out for the season with injuries.
Kirk, who was developing into a dynamic force on offense, has a broken foot. Iupati, who has battled injuries throughout his time with Arizona, has a knee injury.
FANTASY PLAYS: Key fantasy questions for NFL Week 11
A look at some key fantasy football questions going into Week 11:
WHICH UNDER-THE-RADAR PLAYERS HAVE THE BEST CHANCE FOR A BIG GAME THIS WEEK?
Motivated by critics, WR Kirk off to good start in NFL
TEM PE, Ariz. (AP) — Too small, too slow. Christian Kirk is well aware of what critics said to him going into this year's NFL draft.
They're right in front of him every day as he leaves home.
"I have a blackboard at my house that has it all written up," he said. "It's all right where I leave for the door every day."
He hasn't forgotten that five receivers were drafted ahead of him.
"I thought I was the best and I'm out to prove that," Kirk said.
Cardinals head into bye week relieved by 2nd victory
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — After a tumultuous week, the Arizona Cardinals got a dramatic victory that greatly improves the team's mood heading into this coming week off.
"In the team meeting just now, you could tell the vibe was different," coach Steve Wilks said Monday.
Rookie Josh Rosen threw a pair of fourth-quarter touchdown passes, the last a 9-yarder to fellow rookie Christian Kirk with 34 seconds to play, and the Cardinals rallied to beat San Francisco 18-15.
Rookie Rosen rallies Cardinals past 49ers 18-15
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Rookie Josh Rosen came into the huddle to start Arizona's final drive with a few choice words.
"We're going to win this (expletive) game," he said.
Arizona gets 1st win, but plenty of problems remain
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — The Arizona Cardinals finally have their first victory, but plenty of problems remain.
Arizona (1-4) scored three touchdowns off five San Francisco turnovers on its way to a 28-18 road victory on Sunday.
The season-high five takeaways mask a lot of things that didn't go so well, not that Arizona will complain about getting first-year coach Steve Wilks his first victory.
Fast start leads Cardinals past 49ers 28-18 for 1st win
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Josh Rosen got word a couple of days before the game that the Arizona Cardinals would take a deep strike on the opening play in hopes of waking up a struggling offense.
It couldn't have worked any better.
Rosen threw a 75-yard touchdown pass to fellow rookie Christian Kirk on Arizona's opening snap and the Cardinals then turned the game over to their opportunistic defense to earn their first win of the season, 28-18 over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.

Except for Fitz, Cardinals feature very young WR group
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — The first 53-man roster for Steve Wilks as coach of the Arizona Cardinals includes a very young receiving group.
With the exception, of course, of Larry Fitzgerald, who turned 35 over the weekend.
The other four at the position are rookies Christian Kirk and Trent Sherfield, second-year player Chad Williams and fourth-year pro J.J. Nelson.
The team released five-year NFL veteran Brice Butler and Greg Little, who was trying to get back in the NFL after a three-year absence.

Kirk, Williams make case in Arizona WR competition
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — First-year Arizona Cardinals coach Steve Wilks has wanted players to separate themselves in the crowded competition at wide receiver.
Christian Kirk and Chad Williams seem to have done just that.
Both youngsters had impressive nights in the Cardinals' 20-15 preseason victory at New Orleans on Friday night.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Free-agent acquisition Sam Bradford and 10th overall draft choice Josh Rosen combined to provide a promising outlook for the Arizona Cardinals' quarterback situation.

Kirk has big early play, Cardinals beat Chargers 24-17
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — The first time Christian Kirk returned a punt in college, he took it back for a touchdown. He almost did it again on his first touch in the NFL.
"I was thinking to myself 'It's happening again,'" the speedy Arizona rookie said.
After Fitz, receivers a big question mark for Cardinals
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — The Arizona Cardinals have one of the best wide receivers to play the game but, beyond Larry Fitzgerald, the position is a major question mark for the team under first-year coach Steve Wilks.
The names of those competing for playing time and/or just a spot on the 53-man roster are hardly that familiar: Brice Butler, J.J. Nelson, Chad Williams, Greg Little, Christian Kirk and Trent Sherfield, among others.
Underrated is a good word to describe the group, the coach said.
PHOENIX (AP) — Charges have been dropped against Arizona Cardinals second-round draft pick Christian Kirk, who was arrested on counts of disorderly conduct and property damage in February.
The Arizona Republic reports that Scottsdale city records show the charges against Kirk were dropped Tuesday. He was arrested by Scottsdale police after leaving the Waste Management Phoenix Open on Feb. 3.

Rosen says focus all football on first day in Cardinals camp
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Josh Rosen jogged onto the field as an Arizona Cardinal for the first time on Friday and took a moment to reflect.
"When I stepped in the huddle," the young quarterback said, "I kind of looked at the guys and I'm like, 'This is pretty cool.'"
Rosen was the center of attention, as usual, on the first day of Cardinals rookie minicamp, starting out slowly but finishing with a crisp performance capped by a long TD pass to fellow rookie and camp roommate Christian Kirk.
Cardinals address WR needs with player from just down road
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Arizona addressed a need in the second round of the NFL draft, selecting wide receiver Christian Kirk of Texas A&M, who grew up just a few miles down the road from the Cardinals' headquarters.
The 5-foot-11, 205-pound receiver lists the Cardinals' Larry Fitzgerald as a mentor and has a couple of former A&M teammates on the Cardinals roster. He said "the stars aligned" for him to go to his hometown team.
Former A&M WR Christian Kirk drafted by hometown Cardinals in second round
Former Texas A&M WR Christian Kirk won’t have to go far for his first NFL press conference.
As the 47th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, the Scottsdale native was selected by his hometown Arizona Cardinals.
Kirk racked up 2,856 receiving yards and 26 receiving touchdowns in three years with the Aggies. He was the fifth wide receiver selected overall.
Coming back: Texas A&M returns experienced lineup on both sides of the ball
Texas A&M won’t lack experience in 2018. Just three starters have to be replaced on offense and three on defense. The Aggies will feel the departures of receiver/returner Christian Kirk and safety Armani Watts, who are both set to be selected in the upcoming NFL Draft.
With the dynamic Kirk gone and former special teams coordinator Jeff Banks now at Alabama, A&M’s special teams unit has two big holes to fill.
Here is a look at five key returners on offense and defense.
WR Christian Kirk impresses on NFL Pro Day
Wide receiver Christian Kirk and quarterback Johnny Manziel didn’t play together at Texas A&M, but they performed like veteran teammates at A&M’s annual NFL Pro Day on Tuesday at the McFerrin Athletic Center.
Former Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel joins Aggies at Pro Day
As cameras surrounded former Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel in the Aggies' McFerrin Athletic Center on Tuesday, the Heisman Trophy winner announced he was retiring — from Pro Days.
Manziel took part in his second A&M Pro Day Tuesday in an effort to make a comeback to the NFL. It was also his second Pro Day of the spring; he threw passes to wide receivers at the University of San Diego on Thursday.
Robert Cessna grades the Aggies: Kirk, Ausbon highlight solid offensive showing in Belk Bowl
What went right: Texas A&M wide receiver Christian Kirk was amazing with 13 catches for 189 yards and three touchdowns. But even better news for Aggies is freshman Jhamon Ausbon (12 receptions-112 yards, 1 TD) had some great catches as well, which bodes well for the future because redshirt freshman quarterback Nick Starkel (499 yards, four touchdowns) is only going to get better.
Brown: WR Kirk delivers All-American goodbye with career effort in Belk Bowl
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Texas A&M junior wide receiver Christian Kirk sat on a sideline bench at Bank of America Stadium for a long time after the clock hit zero Friday in a 55-52 Belk Bowl loss to Wake Forest.
Teammates formed a short receiving line to shake the hand of A&M’s No. 2 man in career receptions with 234, a mark he earned Friday by passing Jeff Fuller’s 233.
Freshman QB helps Texas A&M light up New Mexico 55-14
Texas A&M, fittingly, had its most complete game of the season on Veterans Day. The Aggies were well prepared, had near-flawless execution and never let up in rolling to a 55-14 nonconference victory over the New Mexico Lobos on Saturday night at Kyle Field.
Robert Cessna grades the Aggies: Stellar first half earns Texas A&M top marks against New Mexico
What went right: Quarterback Nick Starkel and all the receivers had great chemistry, creating more opportunities for Christian Kirk. Texas A&M, which came into the game without a receiver with a 100-yard game this season, had three — true freshmen Roshauud Paul (7-129) and Jhamon Ausbon (7-105), and Kirk (4-120).
Croome: Texas A&M’s Kirk has big night for possibly last time at Kyle Field
It was Senior Night at Kyle Field on Saturday, but a junior also played what likely will be his last game in a Texas A&M uniform for the home crowd.
COLLEGE STATION — Christian Kirk did it all in Texas A&M’s 55-14 victory over New Mexico on Saturday night, and then added an extra point in a personal overtime long after the game’s final whistle.
“I’ll personally say that there’s not another college football coach that I’d rather play for in the entire country,” Kirk said of Kevin Sumlin, in stepping up for the embattled coach who’s expected to be dismissed at the end of the regular season.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Kellen Mond made several huge plays, Daniel LaCamera kicked four field goals and Texas A&M handed Florida a second home loss in as many weeks, 19-17 on Saturday night.
LaCamera’s 32-yarder with 58 seconds remaining proved to be the difference, but Mond made everything happen for the Aggies (5-2, 3-1 Southeastern Conference). The freshman completed eight passes for 180 yards, and added 52 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
Kirk comes up big late, helps Texas A&M beat Florida 19-17
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Christian Kirk was mostly missing for three quarters against Florida on Saturday night.
Texas A&M's best player showed up in the final frame, just in time to help the Aggies pull out a 19-17 victory over the Gators.
Kirk caught a 40-yard pass from Kellen Mond to set up one field goal and then returned a punt 43 yards to put the Aggies in position for the game-winner, a 32-yarder with 58 seconds remaining that turned out to be the difference.
Young QB has helped Texas A&M limit turnovers
Texas A&M's offense has been nearly flawless when it comes to turnovers, despite playing a true freshman quarterback.
Kellen Mond has thrown two interceptions, each time playing well after the mistakes. That's A&M's only turnovers in 395 offensive plays this season. The team's two fumbles came on punt returns by All-American Christian Kirk.
Kirk has breakout game after being slowed 1st 3 weeks
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Texas A&M's Christian Kirk was so upset when he walked off the field after the game against Louisiana-Lafayette two weeks ago that he couldn't even enjoy the win.
The star receiver and returner was mad at himself for muffing a punt and not performing as well as he thought he should on offense.
Watts’ interception seals Texas A&M’s 50-43 victory over Arkansas
DALLAS – Texas A&M free safety Armani Watts came up with a game-ending interception to give the Aggies a 50-43 overtime victory over the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday in the Southwest Classic in a Southeastern Conference opener at AT&T Stadium.
It was the third time in the last four years that the Aggies (3-1) beat Arkansas (1-2) in overtime, extending its winning streak in the series to six.
Texas A&M beats Arkansas in overtime again
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin turned to the leaders of his team in a back-and-forth, potentially frustrating game against Arkansas.

Christian Kirk had given the Aggies the lead on a 10-yard touchdown reception, his third score of the day, on the first possession of overtime before Watts intercepted Arkansas quarterback Austin Allen in the end zone on a third-down play.
